When we launched POST in 2010, our first feature was on the Germany-based Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König (WK).
The book we are currently producing will feature interviews with six companies, and WK is among them. Founder Walter König has stepped back from day-to-day operations, and his son Franz now serves as the company’s representative.
We conducted an interview with Franz. What sets WK apart from other publishers is that it operates not only as a publishing house but also as a bookstore. Franz, who has been active on the front lines of the book industry from both the publishing and retail perspectives, shared insights unique to his experience.
2010年にPOSTをオープンした時に、最初に特集したのがドイツを拠点とするVerlag der Buchhandlung Walther König（WK）であった。今回の本には6社へのインタビューを収録する予定で、その1社としてWKも入っている。設立者のWalther König氏は一線を退き、現在は息子のフランツ氏が代表を務めている。今回はそのフランツ氏へのインタビューを行った。単に出版社だけでなく書店も営んでいる点は、他の出版社にはない特徴だ。出版と販売の両面から本に携わる第一線に立ってきたフランツ氏ならではの話を聞かせてくれた。
